What is the FAJ Bayanihan Covid Relief Fund?

FAJ is starting the Bayanihan Covid19 Relief Fund to provide rapid response relief to community members to support them in staying safe and staying home to slow the spread of the coronavirus and to care for themselves and their families.

We are currently offering up to $500 per individual/$1000 per household in direct cash assistance.

Due to a high volume of applications, this initial round of funding aims to make between 100 to 200 awards to be distributed in several rounds beginning in May.

Who is eligible to apply? – Applications closed on April 24th

The Bayanihan Covid Reflief funds are for FAJ current and past program participants and clients who are experiencing financial hardships due to the current pandemic.

From our extended base, we encourage elders, domestic workers, and low-income individuals and families living in Alameda or Contra Costa counties to apply.

Priority will be given to caregivers, in-home attendants and nannies, seniors and those ineligible for government relief benefits.

How will funds be distributed?

Recipients will be notified starting on May 8th.

We will be distributing funds through pre-paid gift cards OR electronic direct bank transfers in multiple rounds beginning May 11th

Recipients will be required to attend a short call or video conference to receive instructions on how to access their funds.

The rounds of funding will be released according to this tentative schedule:

  • Week of May 11 – 15
  • Week of 18 – 5/22
  • Week of 5/25 – 5/29
  • Week of 6/1 – 6/5

How long will the fund be active?

Further rounds of applications will be made in future months depending on need and fundraising.

Some applicants will be eligible to receive additional funds in coming months depending on available funds.

How much money are you trying to raise? Where are funds coming from?

Our fundraising goal is $150,000. We are grateful for the partnership of East Bay Community Foundation’s Emergency Covid Fund, the National Domestic Worker Coalition, and individual donors who have already contributed to the fund. More partners will be added in coming days as we near the goal.
