POSITION SUMMARY 

FAJ is seeking a fulltime Immigrant Rights Community Responder to co-organize events with theAlameda County Immigrant Legal and Education Partnership (ACILEP), an Immigration Rapid Response Network to expand educational and legal resources for immigrants in Oakland and Alameda CountyThe Community Responder will assist with management of the emergency Rapid Response hotline, organize Know Your Rights trainings and events, and help provide “protection tools” to a variety of immigrant communities impacted by the deportation and criminalization of immigrants.  

This position reports to the Executive Director and would support FAJ’s Newcomer Empowermentwork in our Union City and Oakland offices. The Community Responder will spend three days a week in our office and two days working remotely. Due to the nature of the work, this position will require being on-call during evening shifts.  

 

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Staff the emergency Rapid Response hotline during three eight-hour shifts per week by answering calls by East Bay residents reporting immigration enforcement activity, verifying reports, and dispatching Rapid Response personnel to monitor enforcement actions. 
  • Maintain a database of community events attendees and referrals to services within the network. 
  • Coordinate referral and services with other community responders in the network. 
  • Represent FAJ at monthly ACILEP meetings, as well as other immigrant rights-related coalitions and collaboratives as needed.
  • Organize KYR events in coordination with FAJs Naturalization Counselor. 
  • Engage people in community and partner organization events as needed. 
  • Generate and submit monthly activity reports.  
  • Connect resources provided by the RRN and OCO to insure support is equitably provided to immigrants and other communities impacted by law enforcement and deportation actions. 
  • Support social media strategies aimed at promoting the advancement of immigrant rights and immigrant defense.
  • When needed, serve as a spokesperson for FAJ
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Basic understanding of conditions of immigrant community in the Bay Area; familiarity with and empathy to challenges faced by immigrant/migrant communities 
  • Experience in working under pressure with little support-supervision 
  • Excellent project and time management skills; maintain timely and clear communications withstakeholders 
  • Open to working some evening and or weekends
  • Willing and able to travel to and reach out to other parts of Alameda County/East Bay.
  • Experience in organizing, coordinating and managing events, (childcare, translation, etc) 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Driver’s license, car insurance and access to a car 
  • Some social media experience/skills, willingness to learn, do more 
  • Ability to speak and write Tagalog fluently 
  • Energetic and inspired by the empowerment of people 
  • Comfortable in a fast paced (sometimes intense) work environmentfast learnerself starter,able to ask for help 
  • Experience in outreach and relationship building 
  • At least two years of related work experience 

 

SALARY/BENEFITS – $45,000/annually and benefits
